what is the meaning of M20 Concrete Mix ?
Dear ALL
Greetings
Please any one share the meaning and ratios & quantities of cement , sand , metal and water used for one cubic meter of concrete mix for the following concrete Mix design .
1) M20 Concrete Mix
2) M15 Concrete Mix
3) M10 Concrete Mix
Further , what is the size of the metal used in the above three cases ?
Thanks in advance

RE: what is the meaning of M20 Concrete Mix ?
M stands for mix & 15,20 & 25 this numerical value stands for required compressive strength in MPa (Mega Pascal)

Hi Mr geet
Thank U very very much.
Plz give ratios for M10 Concrete Mix.
Further , if possible , give me quantities required (cement , sand , metal and water) for one cubic meter of concrete mix for M25 , M20 , M15 and M10 concrete mixes.
And what is the size of the metal used in the above four cases ?
Thanks

RE: what is the meaning of M20 Concrete Mix ?
M10,M15(P.C.C)
M20,M25,M30,M35,M40(using OPC)
M50,M60,M75(using micro silica)
AND
M5, M10,used for P.C.C and now a days M15 grade of concrete
has been widely used for PCC.
Where as M20,M25 used for footings, columns, beams&slabs.
From M30 grade of concrete onwards it is Design Mix
M30,M35,M40,M45,M50,M55,M60,M65,M70,M75,M80.
M-5,M-7.5,M-10,M-15 THESE GRADES ARE USED IN
ORDINARY BUILDINGS
AND
For Lean Concrete = M-5,M-7.5,M-10,M-15
For RCC Concrete = M-20,M-25,M-30,M-35
For Coloumn, Pier etc = M-40,M-45,M-50,M-55
For High Grade of Concrete = M-60,M-70,M-75,M-80,M-90,M-100
AND
Ration used in M10 concrete is 1:3:6 1 Cement, 3 Sand & 6 Aggregate

RE: what is the meaning of M20 Concrete Mix ?
The ratio should be for Cement : Sand : Stone (Coarse aggregate)
M-15 = 1:2:4 (cement:stone:sand)
m-20= 1:1.5:3 (cement:stone:sand)
m-25= 1:1:2 (cement:stone:sand)

RE: what is the meaning of M20 Concrete Mix ?
thanks for this information
I would like to share some information with all in this aspect which may be useful.
1. There are two type of concrete mix, one is ‘Nominal Mix’ and other is ‘Design Mix’
2. Nominal Mix is purely volumetric mix and does not require any design e.g. 1:2:4, 1:3:6 ....... like that (Cement: FA:CA)
3. When we say M20, M30 ...... etc it starkly indicates a ‘Design Mix’ not ‘Nominal Mix’. The letter ‘M’ stands for mix and the numerical value indicates the characteristic strength of concrete.
4. Albeit we commonly co-relate ‘Nominal Mix’ with the ‘Design Mix’ like M15 = 1:2:4, M10 = 1:3:6 but this relationship is not supported by any codes or specification.
5. Cement content in ‘Nominal Mix’ is more. Cement content can be reduced effectively by designing a mix properly. ACI, DOE(BS), IS method is generally used for designing a concrete mix. ACI & IS method is based absolute volume of concrete where as DOE(Dept of Environment) is based on wet density of concrete ***. weight based. I experience DOE Guidelines provides more efficient mix compatible with Batching Plant working system.
Regards,
Sandeep
