Hello GP,

You do not have to download and upload your files in order to transfer them from one server to another. If the new server is Linux based and you have ssh access you can get "wget" command to download the files. You can find more details about from google about this function. If you have files which are dynamic i.e. php etc. and which cannot be downloaded directly from a browser you can zip them in the current server and run the wget command on the new server to with the url and the file will be transferred.

Yeah harvey I really need your help here. Please lemme know the commands. I am using the putty software to enter the ssh. Also tell me is there a way to transfer files from one server to another so that I don't want to use my internet connection. So that after running some commands I can shut down my PC. I want something like crawler do. Something like cron jobs.

Sorry I went off somewhere. So in order to transfer lots of files from one server to another, it is always a good idea to use their connections rather than yours. Usually they have a very fast speed even fatser then 1MB in most of the cases. I would suggest that you make few zip files on your old server and make them available through a URL i.e. example.com/file.zip, once you have done this you are ready to dwonload.

Go to you new server open putty and get to the directory where you want to download the files and type the following command:

wget You Cannot View the Links Before Login JC Forums. Please Login or Register JC Forums.

this will download that zip file. You must be wondering now that you have several zip files, you can also use this command to help yourself. For this you can insert all the URL's of all the files you want to download in a file and save it on the new server, and run the following command:

wget -c -i path/to/file/links.txt

This will download all the URL's from the links.txt file and save it on your current directory.

to get more information about this facility I think you should do a google on "wget multiple files".

Thanks harvey but right now my ssh is not enabled so trying to take some help of frds in US to transfer files by using an ftp client. If u can help then it's really gr8 thing for me.

I think if you request ssh access from you host they would give it to you, some hosts require a request for this sort of access so asking them would be a good idea at first.

Sorry mate other than the commands I wont be able to help you with because I have limits on my internet usage.

oh k actually the server owner is not paying attention towards me so thats why I am getting so much probs.

Is that the new server owner or the old server owner not paying attention to your requests? If that is only the old HOST, than do not worry, because atleast you must have URL details of the material you want to transfer right? If yes, than you can use them the way I showed it to you and insert all the links in a file and download them all together to the new host.

If your new host is not providing you ssh, than I think you should not consider going to them because it is very important to have this type of access. You can do many things with ssh access, actually I cant imagine having a hosting service without one.
