Need Information On Civil Engineering Codes

Hi Civil Engineers,

Tell me one thing please, if a new code comes in the market. Is the old code out of date then or still a lot of things are there in old codes as well.

cheers,
GP.

RE: Need Information On Civil Engineering Codes

Usually when a new code comes in the market, the old code doesnot become obselete, unless specifically declared so by the code authority. Moreover, a new release doesnot mean that the whole documents have changed. Usually some sections are added, some are deleted and others amended (the changes are marked in new document).
Many countries which do not have their own codes follows american/ british codes continue using the older version despite the release of new one. For example AAHSTO relesed its LRFD code back in late 90's. But people were using Standard specification till now. Lat year with the 4th release of LRFD code AAHSTO decleared its standard code obselete and says that it no longer favor its use.
I hope this answers your question.
